Heather Rosenman is a Los
Angeles-based ceramic artist known for sculptural vessels blending
ancient forms with modern design, inspired by art history, industrial
design, and geology, using unique glazes and graphic textures to create
timeless, artifact-like pieces.
Originally from New York, she studied graphic design at The Cooper Union and Basel
School of Design. She transitioned from graphics to ceramics after receiving a pottery
wheel as a gift, creating a distinct style that merges primal aesthetics
with contemporary sensibilities
By
simplifying forms to their gestural essence, her designs emphasize
negative and positive space with graphic surfaces and lava glazes
developed through experimentation. For Rosenman, that world is one of what she calls "a
primitive aesthetic with modern sensibilities. I really appreciate
modern art, brutalism, a rawness of materials, and the history of
communication, of language," she says. In her latest ceramic series,
"Scribe," Rosenman explores all of these themes, drawing from cuneiform,
the ancient Mesopotamian writing system. That work became the basis for
the Kerry Joyce line, called the Archetype Collection.
Rosenman
and Kerry Joyce Textiles have partnered to create a collection that is
inspired by her bold ceramic forms and unique surface designs. This
collection reinterprets the complex language of symbols to obtain a poetic
amalgam. Six designs each in 8 handsome colorways for textiles and wallpaper.

"A lot of companies use interior designers to create collections, and
there's nothing wrong with that," Joyce explains of his choice. "But I
thought the idea to work with artists who are gifted and give them the
opportunity to create something new—and my company gets to be the lucky
recipient of that creation—is very special to me. I'm thrilled to be in
that position." Kerry Joyce
